Nina Makhija, ATR-BC, LPC

I’m Nina, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania. I have been working in mental health for over 20 years.

Therapy is a deeply relational experience and I find that it is important to work with someone that you feel comfortable with. I focus on a client-centered approach that starts with building a relationship with my clients. My practice starts with compassion - life is hard - we all need compassion to heal.

My practice is inclusive for LGBTQ+. I am South Asian and first-generation. I have worked with a lot of people of color and immigrants. Human rights are important to me. I believe that we need to support each other during this current political environment.

I believe therapy is about active participation for both therapist and client. I am not what I call a “bobble head therapist” where I just nod my head and reflect back to you. We will actively be setting goals where appropriate. I will work to challenge you and If you are open to homework, like journaling, we can integrate that into our work.

I believe in therapy that works for you. Once we build a rapport, if you need to take a break for a few months and then return to therapy, that is okay. Just let me know what you need. I think so often people “ghost” their therapists and then are afraid to return. Growth is not always a linear process and we need to find what works for you. I want to be there when you need the support.

I am thankful for all the clients that I have worked with and have seen so many people change, heal and grow. If you are ready to meet and see if we might work well together, drop a line.
